The sport of rock climbing was pioneered in Wales and Newgale YMCA are proud to offer this traditional sport that still commands a huge following with contemporary climbers and mountaineers enjoying celebrity status. Involvement in rock climbing has changed peoples lives for the good, instilling a spirit of pioneering adventure and challenge that influences lifestyle and creates a deeper involvement in the natural world.
The rock climbing in Pembrokeshire is regarded as some of the best in the UK. The warm climate and complex geology of the area give a broad range of challenges from the accessible crags of St Davids Head to the extreme routes on sea cliffs situated above a pounding sea.
The majority of our sessions will take place on the exciting but user friendly venues of Wolf Crag and St Davids Head but by prior arrangement more challenging venues can be used for small groups wanting to improve their skills on rock and develop their technical competences.
For our groups engaged on one of our personal development programmes the sport of Rock Climbing provides a platform from which to explore an individuals reaction to challenges, their ability to empathise and communicate effectively with others and how they respond to the issues of trusting others or being responsible for others in a challenging environment.
To succeed in achieving the top of a challenging climb is a buzz that may become addictive. Check out the fastest growing sport of the last decade to find out what it does for you!
