Denise Marriott: Centre Manager

Originally employed by the YMCA back in April 2007, Denise has been a key team member in taking the centre from an empty building to a successful Outdoor Education Provider. Denise holds a postgraduate diploma in Outdoor Education from the University of Edinburgh and has over 16 years industry experience across the UK and overseas. Over the past three years she has been working specifically to develop Newgale’s comprehensive range of high quality youth development programmes as well as supporting a highly experienced base of outdoor practitioners within Pembrokeshire.

Qualified to deliver activities across the full spectrum, as well as being an Accredited Practitioner and Mentor for the Institute for Outdoor Learning, Denise’s role essentially manages the day to day running of the centre and its staff team, although interacting with groups is still her passion and something she aims to continue doing on a regular basis. Denise’s focus is now on looking for new and i

nnovative ways to continue to take Newgale YMCA O.E.C forwards, whilst maintaining their excellent reputation, strong staff team and consummate professionalism in providing safe educational experiences to young people.


Tom Iggledon: Senior Instructor

Tom has been employed in the outdoor industry for over 15 years, working with providers of outdoor learning across the UK and with a wide range of client groups.  Tom has a particular expertise, and passion for, working with disengaged young people. Before joining Newgale YMCA he was employed at The Venture Trust in Scotland providing residential outdoor education programmes with young offenders and young people at risk.

As well as being a highly qualified instructor of activities across the spectrum, Tom is also a Reality Therapy Practitioner and a Development Trainer. Since joining Newgale YMCA in May 2010 Tom has played a leading role in developing, and delivering, outdoor education and development programmes to groups of young people across Pembrokeshire and beyond.

Tom will lead our new Intensive Instructor and Development Training course for people wishing to pursue a career in the outdoor industry, with a specific emphasis on working with young people.  He is an experienced trainer of instructors. In the past he has run development courses for apprentices and graduates and provided instructor training and resettlement courses to people in the armed forces.

In his spare time, Tom is also a member of the Welsh Surf Kayak Team.

 

Krista O’Brien: Marketing Information Officer

Krista has been with Newgale YMCA for just over a year now and holds the post of Communications Officer.  She is responsible for new Sales, Marketing and Fundraising strategies that align with the overarching ethos’ of the charity.  After her very successful year Krista now holds a duel post still with Newgale she takes on the role of Marketing Information Officer for YMCA Wales.  She is now responsible for the development of a national marketing strategy that encompasses all the YMCAs across Wales.

Prior to joining the YMCA, Krista was the Business Development Manager for a global publishing and events company.  She holds an undergraduate degree in Public Relations from Susquehanna University and a Masters of Arts in Communication from Fairleigh Dickinson University in the USA.

 

John Garland: Facilities Supervisor

My name is John Garland. I have lived in Pembrokeshire most of my short life with a few years in the Midlands.  I’ve worked and lived at the YMCA for 3 ½ years and enjoy the variety of people who stay with us.

I am responsible for all of the grounds work and oversee the kitchen duties when groups are in.  Prior to working at the YMCA, I worked in the mental health field as an assistant manager.

 

 

 

 

Gaynor Williams: Programme Coordinator

Gaynor joined the team at YMCA in Spring 2010, she brought with her a wealth of experience from Activity Centres, Corporate Development and the hospitality industry.  She is Pembrokeshire born and bred and having worked away in big business has returned to the county to make a permanent base here.  She has travelled extensively all over the world and when time permits loves to be out walking her dog, riding horses and skiing when work, winter and snow conditions permit.
